Why on earth would an alien even know it got caught on camera gear? Why would they even conceive of 'camera gear'? They might have entirely different senses to us. And who said anything about crashing in a desert? I assume you're talking about Roswell, which we weren't but anyway, is it not possible that even advanced civilisations still have accidents, particularly when voyaging to the unknown?

Because if they have the technology to defeat apparently hard limits on travel, they will understand light...
