Identify a random tub of grit for me 18:10 - May 19 with 1916 viewssparks

Just a small possibility this could become a nice big thread with all sorts of similar queries and contributions. Probably not- but you never know.

When we moved into our current house, various bits and pieces were left behind (as is often the case). In the garage was a big black tub of sandy grit.

Looks too sandy to be horticultural. Wouldnt expect building materials to be in a tub rather than a bag.

The prior owner was a builder by trade (and built the house). Also like gardening and kept birds at one point.

Any knowledgeable guesses?

Perhaps he had a sandblaster to clean his spark plugs.

Aviary grit? You said he kept birds.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

To help us identify it, what does it taste like?

Is that a thing? I wondered but don't know.

I reckon its grit used in birds diets - helps them digest their food

You could ring up the previous owner and ask him- we all want to know now!
