Just a rip off of jangly Beatles sound....

Or an anti Vietnam Protest

Clarksville being a Us Army depot that processed numerous Vietnam draftees

I always thought they were more than a little phoney. but the TV series was enjoyable, as an 11 or 12 year old.

You've got good music if the likes of Goffen and King (Pleasant Valley Sunday) and Neil Diamond (I'm A Believer) are writing for you.

I always felt that their music was a bit better than their audience, if that makes sense

Packaged and sold as bubblegum, but actually had a bit of depth and bite

Pleasant Valley Sunday is a regular on the turntables here....an early rejection of shallow comsumerism before we even knew of such things

Mike Nesmith used to wear a bobble hat.....living in California and his head wasn't cold

Simply years ahead of his time

Underrated group I think. Proper musicians caught up in a fame trap. I loved them!

Me too

Apparently the producers of the tv show felt that it might be easier to get talented young musicians and teach them how to act....as opposed to getting young actors and trying to teach them how to play instruments

Such a happy sound, teenage angst with a bubblegum backbeat
