Four new cases in Auckland and bam - whole City in lockdown plus other measures across the country. Four cases.

We're having about 1,000 per day (passed 1,000 a couple of days ago for the first time since June).

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Yeah, international flights arrive there. It's not a local airport, mate.

Agreed. We've been at least as shambolic as the US in our response to this, to our eternal shame.

You're not very good at this with the volume thing are you. They shut their borders after US shut down to the Europe for example.

The US travel ban on Europe initially barred non-US citizens from the Schengen area with several countries excluded, including the UK and Ireland, so there was plenty of traffic still arriving from Europe then.

All US citizens were free to return understandably, regardless.

At the same time NZ put in force that anyone entering the country must go into isolation for 14 days. Only a few days later all entry was banned for non-residents.

They had already in place bans for China, Iran and other known affected countries.

It's not unfair to point out that NZ isn't remotely as busy as the UK or the US, of course, but it cannot be denied they took appropriate measures in a decisive manner within the best time scale possible and have worked to keep on top of things since.
