Life after Downes 18:18 - Sep 1 with 637 views | Mullet | I get we as with most clubs make our yoots sacrosanct, and there has been a genuine defence of Woolfy (and the photography 5) recently for example which is pretty indicative of where people are at. But the one softening of losing Downes is that he is a CM. We've been saying how well stocked we are in the middle and we had Bishop, Dozzell and Nydam all robbed of at least a season. With the emergence of El Miz, McGavin and maybe even Dobra it may at least create space amongst the dogfight for games to allow one of them to really shine. As good as Downes is, it wasn't enough to carry the team regardless unfortunately, so if we must suffer losing him because of how low we've sunk at least we might get to repeat the process of watching someone mature into another decent player this season.

Life after Downes on 18:29 - Sep 1 with 587 views | Terry_Nutkins | Its the pragmatic truth. Still sucks though. Woolf will be harder to replace in many ways yet Downes is the player who gave me hope above all others. Need to keep Bish and Huws fit and we're ok but neither have Downes energy and fight. We have talented CM but who is going to take the game by the scruff of the neck?

I also wonder how effective Dozzell at the base will be with the movement of Sears and Lankester in the mix too. It was him and Downes together at Lincoln which were like wet tissue, but when he was picking Keane out against Coventry we made one of the best drilled teams in the division stop and think plenty of times. A bit of Premier League movement on the end of those Premier League passes and we might be onto something?

But it’s Lambert so equally likely to be Nolan, Skuse and Judge as the midfield 3.

For how many games though? We do at least have a very intense schedule which will justify his rotation policy. Skuse will not be capable of playing every game as he started breaking down and not able to come back quickly last season. There will be no reason for him to play against the weaker teams at home for example.
