He can't, he won't ever be a manager again after this, he walks away he gets nothing, he will sit and wait for Evans to pay him off

I'd have thought there would be something in the contract about a non promotion clause or something, but I can quite imagine Evans being thick enough to literally have a 5 year deal in place with no clauses.

Lambert is the master of contracts, that's 9 years of football he's managed to get from Villa and Town despite being a crap manager
