Hello Priti, didn't kow you were a Town supporter.

And that kind of statement Ryorry however right or wrong your views may be, is why no mainstream member of public can take you seriously. You spend your entire time preaching to the converted. To be able to convince others of your arguments you need to be more persuasive.

So you only read those 9 words I wrote & nothing of the rest.

You haven't a clue as to how seriously I'm taken by "mainstream members of public" outside of this forum where, thus far, every single person who's commented on the subject has agreed with me & disagreed with you.

Your making stuff up is then continued in the next para. If you bothered to look at my post history, I spend quite a lot of my time attempting to persuade those who are "unconverted" on a variety of things.

Your trying to discredit me in such an obvious & silly manner just outs you as a rather objectionable Tory who supports the suppression of our democratic rights.

Is this another stick to which to beat the police with?.. it’s not police officers who pass these laws and quite honestly, there are so many limitations to what police can actually do.

As a serving police officer (not in the met) I can certainly vouch for myself and everyone else that I work with.. I couldn’t give a shirt who is in power. I just want to be able to go to work and do a job that makes peoples lives just a little bit less dreadful. The laws in place don’t give police half as much power as the general public think or expect of them

Someone questioned police bias higher up in this thread and situations such as the miners' strike were quoted.

It is more that the role of the police is to represent law and order as implemented by the Government.

If protest is legitimate the majority of the police will not act to prevent it, although there is always that clash between it causing inconvenience and obstruction to those who want to go about life without the protest's effects. The problem for the police with the miners' strike was a lot to do with them having to enforce the Government position that the mines were closing and the strikes were being made illegal.

This bill is about the Government making it the police's job to prevent protest per se. It is about as authoritarian as you can get. It is the equivalent of how China treats Hong Kong.

Well those words were your opening gambit in that particular message and churlish to say the least. You make some very good points and I accept your strong views on this subject. Once again this forum is completely non acceptable of any view which differ from the so called 'gang of twenty'.
I have been labelled a Norwich City supporter and an objectional Tory during this thread, both of which are completely untrue. My guess is I was voting Labour before you were born (if I am wrong I apologise), and I want to see another Labour government. It will never happen if all we do is knock the opposition. Never has worked and never will.

What would work?

Why is criticising the disastrous and damaging policies of this Government wrong?

Those words were no more than a bit of banter, obviously intended as humorous, that's very commonly used on here. Seems to me that describing them as "churlish" says more about you than me.

As for "It will never happen if all we do is knock the opposition" - I take people as I find them, and if you don't want to be taken as a tory, then don't talk or write like one, and stop supporting the authoritarian & extreme measure that they propose.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Are you really expecting me to answer that! Ok for a start they need to accept that times have changed and folks aspirations change with that. Saying we must help the under privileged, we must stop racism, we must defend human rights etc etc is just rhetoric. A manifesto that explains how to do this at the same time as modernising the party and not attacking everyone that earns over the 20% tax limit might be a good start.
Sorry if this was not the original thread but you did ask!

They produce a manifesto every election time with that detail.

You think those manifestos simply "attack everyone that earns over the 20% tax limit" and are full of empty rhetoric about defending human rights, helping the under privileged and stopping racism.

Wow! And this from a Labour voter. There is no hope. I can understand why you don't want to offer a solution.
