Was reading about this earlier, what is remarkable is when you see pictures of the contraptions these astronauts were strapped into, or actually get to see them in person.
I recall seeing one of the lunar modules at Kennedy and it's unreal people were sat in that, they really can't have thought they had much chance of coming home again.
