So hopefully this will lead to a lot more of the deadwood being released or sold.

I would like to think he mentioned it at the end as he was trying to be respectful of the situation while gainfully employed. Not trying to exonerate the bloke for being awful, but I'm willing to bet he would have been quite right on his challenge of Evans here.

Yes he was right to challenge Evans , but like so many before him , appearing mostly to pay lip service to Evans, when in fact it a challenge needed to be made. Almost impossible to a powerful owner though I accept. But This in essence was the Clubs primary driver to decline / in my humble opinion of course !

Whilst he was getting a big fat contract, it was lip service to the problems. His job was not to rock the boat. Lambert was an incomprehensible bag of gas. Useless, but from Evans perspective harmless. If PL had really wanted to do something about the guts being ripped out of the club, he would have done so. Instead, it was yes sir no sir thanks for the five year contract sir.

Sustained mediocrity. I have a feeling it was the players that ran the show and decided who was in or out. Evidence? None. However they played their part in ousting Hurst and tried the same with Cook.

Thank goodness that dreadful owner has been sidelined, buffoon Lambert gone to mumble on tv and most of those players who let us down are being shipped out. We have a chance of something a little better now.

As stated, this isn't a post to exonerate Lambert. The infrastructure comment was probably the most in-line with Fan Thinking as Lambert was - with no Bias, I am really curious to hear him go deeper on this one day.

I never thought it was. It was just another angry rant on my part against Evans really.

You are of course right re Lambert and I too would very like to hear his thoughts on this one day.

Very true . But from memory , Lambert only mentioned the infrastructure when he knew he’d be leaving didn’t he ? Hurst clearly identified the issues very early on and tried to change everything but was a dead man walking from that moment in with players rebelling ( just like they did against Cook), but the main difference was the owners are backing Cook , and Evans as we know wasn’t interested.

Do we actually know that the players rebelled against Hurst or is that myth and legend that has built up over time? I’d like it to be true but have never seen anyone from the club (staff or players) actually back it up.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Im not sure how extreme it got, but iirc someone with reliable info definitely said that Hurts' early days were not happy ones for the players - as for a rebellion - well, that might be over egging it

That’s about how I remember it too. I’m looking forward to the truth about the end of last season coming out too. Why was it that Things went downhill after Cook came? What did the players do, or not do, almost to a man that drove him to such extreme lengths of bombing out the whole squad? I was the actions of a very frustrated man or was there a culture so imbedded that this whole sale change was essential? I’m curious, and perhaps it will be the likes of Kieran D or Big Butch that will eventually be able to lift the lid for us.

I think we have to look at the fact Chambers, Skuse, Judge and Sears all went back to Colchester. Clearly the club and players knew they were not able to perform in a L1 promotion-chasing team - I bet a few home truths came out while Cook was trying to work on player fitness.

I think the Cook Slump would have happened with almost any manager at that point as every single player looked more and more knackered as each game came in.
