I think it is due a re-lay this year isn't it? I think the last major one was the season before we went down.

I think relaying is about the most extreme maintenance you can do - the sod is probably healthy enough to re-seed in all honesty

They do a scrape and reseed every summer, although it missed out on that last year.

It does need biger work done to it which is going to cost a lot. It was the only 100 per cent natural pitch in the Championship and the last really deep down work was done in 1977.

It's long overdue some really serious investment, the kind that would make it a sand based pitch with undersoil heating, improved drainage and part synthetic fibres, which will be a million quid plus job. I suspect it will only have superficial work this summer, if only because planning that kind of work would take quite some time I imagine.

Im sure they wouldn't do major major work until they're ready to install undersoil heading, surely?

If the new owners are sure of their Premier LEague ambitions, I am sure they will put that work off until we go up - as I think undersoil is a condition of entry into the PL is it not?

Ian Milne put it at a million or a million and a half a couple of years back and the logistics are difficult, in part because access is only available via the tunnel. The plan was always that after promotion to the Premier League it would be set for the following summer.

Milne: State of Pitch Down to Number of Games and Weather 3rd Apr 2018 12:04
MD Ian Milne says the poor current state of the Portman Road pitch is down to the number of games played on it during January and adverse weather conditions, however, he says the club are looking at ways of improving it going forward. 31

It'll be easy once they knock down the Cobbold Stand.
