Any art enthusiasts/collectors? 17:10 - Apr 25 with 901 viewsSouthBucksBlue

I’ve been looking for a feature piece for a while and have found a painting I love but it’s not an original. It’s one of a limited edition of 45 hand embellished giclée prints on canvass so it looks like one. The original has been previously sold. The artist seems to sell all their oeuvres like this i.e. the original plus 45 such prints.
Do prints hold their value like originals do?
These framed prints are priced at 50% of the price of the original. Is that normal?
Thanks

I’m in the fine art business. More Moorcroft pottery for me and general antiques.
These type of prints were originally called Oleographs in the late 19th century and were there to look like an oil painting should. Today called Giclee prints as you so rightly say. For me a recent print is a niche market.

I often have LR Squirrell prints or etchings as I cannot afford or buy reasonably an original watercolour by this fine Ipswich artist.

So, if you like what you have and fits in to your life then so much the better. Prints only hold their price if it’s by a reputable artist. Be careful, do your research please. PM me if I can help further.

Hope you don’t mind me asking but I have several originals by the Suffolk artist Michael Coulter and would be interested in selling, but don’t know where I can put them on the market. Thank you.

Anywhere to get a sneaky peak without infringing on anonimity?

I'll PM you a pic if it's ok with VWH - but I'm not near it at present.

Prints are OK - but very rarely gain any value so don’t buy one for just investment purposes.

I have a few originals of one particular artist that my local art shop helped me source. I now get a heads-up when new works are available and before they end up on public show/sale.
