Sutton Utd closing in on a place in the Football League 17:21 - May 15 with 1216 viewsdominiciawful

Torquay could only draw the other week so it's been back in Sutton's hands and they won 3-0 this afternoon to move 4 pts clear. Torquay playing Stockport tomorrow, I believe.

Sutton have never been in the League before. Would be good to see them go up.

Poll: Which manager of the Marcus Evans era do you dislike the most?

Always remember them as a good cup side back in the 80's. They beat Coventry one year and I know a few Ipswich went up to cheer them on in the next round at Carrow Road, where they unfortunately lost 8-0. (At least it wasn't us).

They had a proper old school manager didn't they? Wore a flat cap, smoked in the dug out etc.

Have they still got the plastic pitch?

I used to live in Sutton so it would be good to see!

I seem to remember their board saying a few years ago they didn't actually want promotion because they wanted to stay as a semi-pro community club, and didn't want to have to get rid of their artificial pitch. Not sure if the same people are in charge now!

Yes. Although 3G is a bit different to the hard plastic pitches of the Luton/QPR/Oldham/Preston days of the eighties. Not sure if it is allowed in the EFL though.

It's not, they'll have to dig it up. Harrogate did the same and played their first few matches at Doncaster.

Poll: An interesting day for our politicians, but which one is worse?

There’s no promotions or relegations this season in the national league are there?

Edit: I think there’s only promotions? All a bit confusing lol

I refereed games twice at QPR. The surface was so different. Travelled really quickly on any pass along the ground and any bounce was hard for players to predict. Sometimes it was very high and sometimes quick and fast going to chest height. Believe me players did not bounce when they fell. It was like falling over in a car park …. But today’s 4G are very different.
