Maybe Cook, rather than just saying to some of the players, Like Doz, Downes, Bishop, Wolfie and Co, 'you aren't wanted here, best you find yourselves another club', maybe the conversation was more like this -
"Lads, look, I've told everyone that any player that doesn't want to be here can go, so here's what we are going to do, you can inform your agents that you are free to go and if clubs come in and make offers, we'll accept or decline those offers based on what best for Ipswich."
"Should we accept an offer, of course you are free to talk to those clubs and you can leave if thats what you really want. However, if you love this club and want to be part of whats about to happen here, then you've got the choice to refuse that transfer and stay at Ipswich"

Kind of what I said in another thread yesterday.
But a couple of posters in touch with players or people in the club suggested that sadly it wasn’t like that. Chambers interviews seems to back that up. So as much as I’d like your scenario to be what really happened I don’t think it was! [Post edited 15 May 2021 20:19]
