They are more annoyed about the new proposed planning rules, as much as HS2, which will make house building easier with less control from local people, lots of protests in Amersham especially about it. They don't like the idea of loads of new housing destroying their countryside .

Although it's actually what I like about by-elections it's often about what's important locally (even if you disagree with it) and that should be the same for GE's you vote for the person who will benefit/champion you locally about local issues but at GEs that goes out of the window

"They don't like the idea of loads of new housing destroying their countryside ."

Much as I'd like to believe that the vote was mainly driven by locals having very real environmental concerns, through my experience of the area (number of friends have lived there over the years) I'd say that a significant number would be more worried about protecting a fall in their house prices and communities from newcomers that would be a result of any significant build in new housing in the area (particularly as the Conservatives had stated that they would prioritise building on brownfield sites in the area in their campaign)

If this had been achieved by an openly racist far-right party it would be being called a 'sea change in British politics' as it is, this welcome move away from the politics of Basic Decency Is Bad will be seen as just a protest vote.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Amazing how much difference a few weeks can make in politics . Every councilor elected in the local elections was a conservative.

2023 year of destiny
