The penny has finally dropped. Wrong channel. That was ITV's coverage, not the Beeb.

Ah, I didn't know they both broadcast it. That would have left the non footballing public to watch bbc2 , which I think had only just started up and maybe wasn't broadcasting during the day anyway at that time.

Now we know. Us bloody kids eh? See, I had assumed, possibly like yourself, that the BBC would spend its days broadcasting things like public information films and the odd major sporting event, such as the WC final there. And that ITV was probably just a rolling 12 hours per day repeats of Coronation Street or something.

BBC2 only existed in those days to frighten children with that dreadful image of that deranged looking girl and her horrible clown friend. I was too traumatised to even remember who was winning the game of noughts and crosses.

Haha! That's right - the weird test card. I can vaguely remember that there was little or no day time tv (although Watch With Mother was lunchtime I think). All very black and white | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Watch With Mother. My poor mum would have liked that changed I think as I, as a toddler, would take it literally and demand that it meant she had to spend her valuable time with me watching Tales of the Riverbank. For the uninitiated, it was basically animal abuse in which hamsters and guinea pigs were put into little boats and shoved off into a stream.
