If only they'd had 17 months without fans attending... I know probably being too simp!istic...

I remember the Chelsea ground from the good ole days and dump doesn’t cover it. Obviously it’s been redeveloped over the years but my employers hired out a function room there a few years ago so I managed a little nose around. It was not exactly the Emirates.

At the ground, the stench of the bins was a warm welcome and the function room itself smelt of damp, stained ceilings, broken furniture and was generally tired. The other bits of the ground looked tired too. It surprised me, given the money Chelsea have, but I’ve been told they are looking to move or redevelop at some point.

The Oval also hired out function rooms in the media centre too, but these in contrast were immaculate, as were the facilities and service by the staff.

I enjoyed the away day there just over a decade ago in the cup, felt like a proper football ground still. Would be a shame if they moved.

They "can't" move.

As I understand it. One of the last things Ken Bates did as owner was to sign over the land to a supporter 's trust, and the land can't be redeveloped without their say so. They in turn will only allow it to be redeveloped as a football ground, when that gets the go ahead they're going to move to Wembley like Spurs did.

That's probably the problem - too much time deadlines which are missed are not followed up on, suppliers being late are not hassled etc.
