How many on here went to the game today? 20:43 - Aug 28 with 3452 views | Keaneish | There’s a lot of chat but not much commentary on the events on the pitch. Can anyone provide any valuable insight into why we’ve abysmally failed to hold on to a commanding lead at home to a minnow? Did Cook and the mgmt fail or did individual players? It’s one or the other…

How many on here went to the game today? on 22:08 - Aug 28 by Meadowlark | When we were clearly the better team in the first half we did not take advantage. Our crossing was poor and our finishing non-existant. When we went 2-0 up we sat back and did not try to dominate and put the game out of sight. Time wasting often comes back to bite you too. Again we were weak in midfield and we need a holding player at the back to add a bit of steel. Tom Carroll last week filled that role towards the end but he did not feature today. Their goals were kinda the same as last week's. One, a soft free-kick given away in a dangerous position and the other a bad mistake, this time by the keeper. But we're again inviting pressure by making the wrong decisions, giving the ball away and giving the opposition too much space and time. Our distribution from the back is appalling, but that didn't contribute to the result, it is just frustrating as hell. Although we have pace upfront the approach play is too tentative at times and too often the ball comes back to the keeper/defence who don't want to hoof it but don't really know what the alternative is, and they are getting no help from the midfield. I have seen all our league games this season so far and today's opposition were not very good - we really should have beaten them by a handful of goals. The fact that we didn't is a bit worrying. We are playing much better football generally, than in recent seasons, but the idea is to score more goals than the opposition and that we cannot do at present. And Edwards didn't seem to want to play today. Drifted in and out. |
I'm surprised more hasn't been made of the time wasting. With 10-15 minutes to go we should have still been pushing for a 3rd to kill the game, not time-wasting as though it was deep in to stoppage-time
How many on here went to the game today? on 11:27 - Aug 29 with 358 views | CornishMariner | I was there and also watched the highlights back in slow motion. Going forward we have pace and some partnerships forming with enough strength in depth to cope with injuries. We will get more penalties as the season goes on. Coulson was the best for me but I sit on that side where has attacking in the second half. Edwards has talent but he needs to be more consistent, especially in the second half. Evans started the move for Burns' goal with a well-timed interception. The first Wimbledon goal saw Evans beaten to the ball as Heneghan reacted more quickly to Piggot's flick on; the second saw Harper ball watching as Heneghan came in with acres of space. One would expect Hladky to save that but again it was a Wimbledon player that reacted more quickly. So there is plenty of speed and talent but a lack of concentration at vital times. The players need to switch on to this and engage their brains more otherwise its going to be a very hard season.

How many on here went to the game today? on 11:59 - Aug 29 with 329 views | DebsyAngel | I didn't go yesterday - had a day out booked in for ages before the season started and did that. My Dad was meant to go but he was too scared to, as he is worried re covid so much (his best friend has caught it from a hospital stay). I will be back for the next one though!

How many on here went to the game today? on 22:10 - Aug 28 by Meadowlark | That's what I was trying to say. but you said it much more concisely! |
Ha, I think I was concise because I was so disappointed, on reflection I may have been a tad harsh but fundamental it felt like we took a step backwards yesterday, we didn't get to the levels of the MK Dons game, we were never on control of the game and both Evans and Harper had poor games for players of their ability. I really thought we'd benefit from a week on the training ground but if anything we regressed. I think we tired so quickly second half because the half we rushed it so much and had to cover a lot if ground, playing on the front foot is great you can't do it for 90 mins, we actually looked a threat on the counter when dons committed men forward. I see we are interested in Morsy, which is encouraging his type I'd midfield would give us much needed bite and hopefully free up Evans / Harper a little bit If Morsy is too ambitious I hope we have another target in mind
