Execution and Decision Making 12:32 - Nov 10 with 509 viewsCheltenham_Blue

As could have been predicted, the Twittersphere had another wobble after last night's result, but something that has struck me this season is the execution of key passes or shots, the decision making of individual players and downright bad luck too.

- Pigott slapping the ball directly at the keeper when put through by Barry,
- KVY stealing the ball from Nouble in the area and then missing wide right when easier to score
- Aluko receiving the ball from Harper wide right but then not seeing the 1-2 that Harper created
- Pigott not shooting immediately when Aluko capitalised on a Col U mistake
- Pigott forcing a class save onto the post from the keeper in the same move
- Barry over stretching and skewing his shot wide in the follow up.
- KVY over stretching for a ball he was never going to reach and injuring himself in the process
- Barry's snap shot from the corner that was deflected wide off the line
- Hladky electing to take the ball on his chest rather than putting his head through it
- Frasers volley which was hit too close to the keeper, if anything the connection was too good
- Pigotts curled attempt from 18 yds tipped over when Burns was free and in space wide right
- Clement's rush of blood after Chaplin's quick FK when squaring the ball would see us in for a goal.

We are so so close as a team, and you can see that they still aren't 100% on where players are likely to be, their pace or their energy levels, but it is getting there. I recall watching previous competitive Town sides, 81 and 99 are prime examples where the movement and passing was almost telepathic.

We're whisker close to that with this side, we just aren't quite there yet. Be positive.

Can't really read too much into a game between our reserves and Col U. The weekend game was probably more disappointing as we were at full strength and it sounds like we didn't really turn up, which is frustrating as it was a chance to build some momentum after the Wycombe game. If we slap Oxford at the weekend then not too many people will care about these two games.

I'm coming to Oxford, so hopefully we do give them a slapping.
