Town Youths who never pushed on... On This Day Edition 10:52 - Nov 10 with 696 viewswkj

Bowditch Chelsea Link 10th Nov 2003 10:14
Town striker Dean Bowditch is one of a number of promising youngsters reported over the weekend to be interesting Chelsea. 0

It was just shy of 20 years ago that Dean Bowditch and Grant Leadbitter were supposedly catching the eyes of scouts at Stamford Bridge.

I honestly though Bowditch was destined to greater things, however - he now plays for Stowmarket town without ever really playing at a level above Town.

Other names mentioned in the article were:

Lee Holmes (Youth at Derby who had a decent career. Just left Exeter to play at Mickleover this year)

Ryan Jarvis (Youth at Norwich who played at various teams in the lower leagues - now at Lowestoft)

Grant Leadbitter (Probably had the best career out of all mentioned, still applying his trade in League 1)

I've seen quite a few former youth prospect at local non-league over the years.

My favourite was Nabil Abidallah. His Wikipedia entry lists him as playing for 'Sudbury'.

In reality what happened was he was offered a contract by AFC, turned out for a couple of training sessions, one sub appearance and then bothered to show up ever again.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Under that criteria I think I played for Sudbury for a while in the early 90,s

Remember watching bowditch in a home match v Forest which i think we lost 2-1 (Johnno) but he scored our goal from 20 yards out, back to goal, feint one way, hit the other and i thought he's got to go on to a higher level, but as you say, never did
