The situation with Russia is escalating rapidly. I'm convinced Putin has lost the plot and is out of control.
He needs to be reigned in from within. But who has the balls among the yes men that surround him? I also feel he is painting himself into a corner and is going down a road from which there is no coming back.

I think (well, hope anyway) it's just a form of blackmail to get what he wants. Toddler & teenage style "gimme what I want or <insert most extreme threat they can think of here>
As for the inner circle/any form of restraint - you'd like to think most of these people have families, and would stay his hand and/or give him the bullet if, err Putin really came to shove-the-button-in. |  |
