Wes Burns this season on 13:50 - Mar 8 by itfcjoe | Sometimes things don't need to be overcomplicated - especially when a lot of signings were players that have previously done well at this level, in the very recent past that we could blow clubs away wages wise. Even going back to Wes Burns, he was due to sign for Coventry, then Fleetwood triggered his contract option (that they couldn't afford to pay for the season) and because we were able to pay ~£150k transfer fee it meant that Coventry could no longer afford him. The bottom half of the Championship had no money, Leagues 1 and 2 had no money so we were very much able to get the pick of a lot of players. Someone like Sam Morsy was no doubt a tough deal to do, but being able to pay north of £10k a week made it achievable, without the loadsamoney we had there is no way that deal gets done |
The fact players have been a success elsewhere and the club is paying them very decent L1 wages, doesn't automatically guarantee they will prove successful here. Although Suffolk is a lovely part of the country, it's also rather remote and sometimes players have difficulty in relocating and adjusting especially if they have moved down from up north in Wes Burns' case. I remember when Walton first signed and there were many suggesting he was no better than Holy and Hladky after the first couple of games, but once again he's proved his worth, the same with Morsy. Yes, the PC era was less than impressive but give him a little credit that he did make some very decent signings for us, there's no shame in that.

It wasn’t that long ago people were criticising them as Ashton’s signings….. The squad we built in the summer was very good, so all involved deserve credit but it’s a lot easier to recruit well when you are outspending everyone

True, but it still doesn’t guarantee they will be a success here and after a slow start many now are showing their worth which is great to see.
