In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Not stupid, different.

If there were X number of clusters of cases in the UK in March 2020, but an additional X came into the UK eg every 3 days through ports and airports, then the number of clusters, and therefore prevalence and spread, would have been greatly reduced if those additional cases had not entered the country. We would always have been further back in the curve at any given point.

As the rationale behind the lockdown was not overwhelming the NHS, then any shift down the curve would have helped with that, and less people would have died.

You are making the misconception that it was the virus arriving every day from abroad and that is what was causing it. it wasn't, it was already in the UK and once it got hold in London it wasn't going to make much of a difference. No one was really traveling anyway once the news got out. The notion that covid wouldn't have hit the UK in early spring of 2020 if we shut down the borders the on this day two years ago is absolutely laughable.

The reality is the world was greatly underprepared, some faired much better and that was for a variety of reasons, mainly geography, population density and experience with prior respiratory viruses. South Korea for example whirled into action with contact tracing and had a lot of PPE.

People can have differing opinions on lockdowns, a lot of credible studies suggest they were a lot less effective that you might have think. Luckily I have had to worry about restrictions for well over a year, I feel for those that had to deal with them in 2021 (at least the people that didn't want to).
