What he said was; Like Oxford, Ipswich had great years in the 80s and like any club the history becomes embedded in the people around the place and among the fans. They would have qualified for Europe if it were not for the ban on English clubs' Let us try and show some respect and dignity for our opposition.

They stayed up in order to relegate us at that time too, didn't they? That is a fairly equal footing! What we achieved in 1981 and before that far eclipses what Oxford achieved, but after that we were very much similar in where we were and I can recall some very close results between us. We were 3-0 when Aldridge scored a hat trick in double quick time and they beat us 4-3 that year.
