Yellow card for simulation on 08:26 - Apr 1 by GeoffSentence | I'm with you on this. Except in competition clips make no sense, even in competition there is little, if any, evidence that they improve performance. I am pretty sure that clips contribute to red light running as well, because clipped in cyclists dont want to stop and clip out at lights. |
I also completely agree. I used to cycle regularly in London, 25k to work and 25k home. I had a road bike but i used the pedal cage things rather than clip ins and in all my time cycling never had an incident and happily took a breather at red lights without fear of getting my feet stuck! I also have done plenty of cycling with friends who use clip ins and they have a chuckle about me not having clip ins but I don't seem to have any issues keeping pace with them and they are far keener cyclists than i am. Any extra efficiency must be so marginal that unless doing a time trial or a professional athlete I really don't see the point of them over the risk of cycling on open roads with traffic. People say if you are well practiced they are easy to clip and unclip but it only takes one time to look like a tit and end up hurt. | |
