Never been before (Rotherham doesn't count!). Going for a few days next week - doing most of the usual tourist traps. Any hints, tips or other places of interest I should consider whilst there?

Went in December last year.

I really liked the feel of little Italy and china town in the evening. Great food and more locals than tourists.

Saw an ice hockey and basketball game, preferred the ice hockey myself but my fiancé preferred the basketball.

I really wanted to go to Katzs deli but the queues are ridiculous so although we went there we didn’t bother queuing.

The 911 museum is very moving and probably my “favourite attraction” of them all if you know what I mean. Very well done and still very moving.

We stayed in the Barclays intercontinental which I can recommend.

The city passes are well worth the money. You can either purchase them per attraction or per day. We went for a day one (bought 3/4 days) and we managed everything we wanted to see. Just be aware the attractions aren’t always open so check in advance and plan it out.

Second what others have said about a broadway show. We went for Book of Mormon and it was brilliant.

Don't know if this counts as an obvious tourist bit yet, but really liked getting an awesome New York sandwich (available in every sandwich shop) and then walking the High Line including sitting up there for lunch.

Forgive my ignorance but is a New York sandwich the same thing as a Reuben?

You need to have a Reuben too if not.

East Village has the best bar scene in Manhattan. Lots of old school pubs, decent cocktail joints and speakeasy’s.

What kind of food do you like?
