“You don’t know what you’re doing’ to a manager who has taken England to a World Cup semi final and Euro final, booing Maguire when a defence without him have let in 3, leaving early. Awful fans.

England have played poorly in a glorified friendly with a team that won’t be the one starts the World Cup. We’ll do well in Quatar, I’m sure of it.

I'm sure the England players are in need of a rest but surely the German, Hungarian and Italian players are also knackered after similarly long seasons?

Not sure many of them would have been in any of the European or domestic cup finals.

I was in the crowd and was getting wound up by the idiots disrespecting Southgate.
The general mood turned at 1-0 which seemed very early in the context of Hungary scoring from what was probably their first attack.
The abuse some were giving the players in the second half was way over the top too, especially with young kids about including their own. Surprised they can get that angry about a Nations League game.
Quite a few left in disgust at 2-0.
Assumed that they aren’t proper football fans but maybe we’re just used to seeing a lower minority of c units at Town compared with some other clubs.
Wolves shouldn’t host again after that.

You're right, that is an embarrassment and is totally uncalled for. Southgate has always given his best, and has behaved with grace throughout.

However, the results in that World Cup were nothing special. We beat Panama, Tunisia, Sweden and Colombia (on pens). We lost to Croatia (aet) and Belgium twice. It's great to get to a semi, but in the cold light of day, those results were pretty average. We didn't beat a strong team at any stage, while plenty of other teams did (Uruguay, France, Russia, Belgium, Croatia and Mexico all did).

Will the draw be so kind to us in Qatar? Quite possibly. If we and the Netherlands win our groups, we should get into the Quarters without breaking too much of a sweat. And then a potential QF tie with France. Our recent form in major tournaments against the stronger teams is poor. The Germany result in the Euros (against a Germany side who'd come bottom of their WC group in 2018) is really the only substantial knockout round success I can think of for quite some years, and you need to string those sorts of results together to win tournaments. (In 2020 Italy had to get out of their group and then beat Austria, Belgium, Spain, England).

I am sorry, but Southgate didn't have to do that much right in the World Cup and Euros to progress as far as we did, we were often very lucky with who we played and when, however as soon as we came up against a much better team we had nothing at all. It's a bit like when you get to the FA Cup final playing mostly lower league teams, sure you can only beat what's in front of you, but that also doesn't make you a generational manager either.

I think the wheels are off this lot now, and the players are being found out. People expect far too much of those English players anyway, we are not an amazing team on the world stage and English players don't even make up the better teams in this country, this England side would finish about 7th in the Premier League.

They pays their monies and entitled to complain if the show is sh1t easy as stop being stupid.
This tournament is also used to seed teams for the next Euros if we finish bottom which could well happen then we run the risk of being in with 2 top seeded countries.

I said the other week what does success now look like for Southgate, what will be the breaking point for fans and media alike becauae the expectations are sky high even allowing for the traditional WC fever starting, clearly for some fans it's not losing 4-0 to Hungary at home.

Even in a meaningless friendly with a makeshift team I don't think any England manager regardless of their prior record would escape criticism for that performance

We will just have to see if its a blip or a trend. But I remember the feeling after 90 WC, we felt top of the world going to win the next tournament easily, that squad of players i believe never played a competitive game again with each other, and we didn't even qualify for wc94. That's how quickly things can change around.

It's always about the next game not the past success in football.
