I rate both Bakinson and Thompson, although I think the club decided, as promotion seemed out of reach, not to splash the cash in the January transfer window, and instead rely on loans. My view on McKenna is that he completely transformed the way the team played so as to turn it into a proper footballing team, as opposed to a collection of individuals under Cook. In my opinion, we ended up playing the best football we have played for years, so that itself is enough to justify my faith in McKenna. Admittedly, he could not solve the goalscoring problem, but that is clearly not something which could have been fixed in January, and I have total belief he will sort this out over the close season.

Anyone that can't see how he transformed us is a bit simple to be perfectly honest. We only lost 4 in 23 and only conceded 12 goals in the process - if you extrapolate that over a season they are automatic promotion stats. We were missing that final killer instinct at times and ended up with too many draws. Even then we ended up 5th over the course of his 23 games. It's a case of small tweaks this summer, we aren't far off.

just to be clear, im not doubting McKenna on the pitch but he's yet to prove his credentials in the transfer market. That's fine as he's only been in the job for 6 months but we can't also have blind faith. I

No need to call people simple. I certainly can see the transformation but I recognise there's an awful lot still to do to to be a promotion winning team. Whist the priority was rightly goal conceding and pattern of play, the failure to improve play at set pieces at both ends in four months on the training ground sticks out a mile. Get why people extrapolate 23 games over a season, but why do they ignore the fact that that in his half season he didn't play one of the promoted sides but played a relegated side twice which skews the stats. Results tailed away badly, 2 wins in the last 9. Easy to blame that on lack of a goalscorer but up to coach to work around that. I'm still cautiously optimistic, but McKenna's still an inexperienced novice at this level and has a hell of a lot to prove.
