Good point, clearly we aren’t going to sign a huge number of players but we need massive improvements when it comes to set pieces and so this will probably be a consideration with most players we look at. He seems to have fairly good arial statistics.

How many players have you watched then? Come on, you know that's a silly comment.

Some people just cannot apply any form of logic or reality. Seen one person going mental on Twitter over Leigh's heatmap and how we need someone who gets forward more. It's almost like a full back playing for relegation threatened Morecambe, who allow opponents to dominate the ball and sit back will have full backs that aren't right up there for forages forward! No doubt Leigh is bang on what we want him to achieve in terms of his statistics. Morecambe fans saying he chose to leave for someone bigger (which clearly now looks jusitifed) and that he would have been player of the season if not for Stockton. He's clearly a fit for McKenna and with Penney having a year left and not being what we want, I'd imagine Penney will be allowed to move. Leigh also plays for Jamaica so will be away 4-6 times a season so looks even more likely he's coming in as a backup that may earn the big job.
Greg Leigh? on 11:57 - Jun 20 with 2220 views | itfcjoe | The end for Matt Penney presumably, Leigh has a much more rounded game and athletic profile, but you'd imagine is signed to be the competition rather than the starter

Greg Leigh? on 10:50 - Jun 20 by itfcsuth | Whilst he technically was released, according to Morecambe forum he was one of the best performers with Cole Stockton, and were not surprised, although disappointed that he left. It seems more likely he wasn't looking at signing a new deal with Morecambe off the back of a good season for him. |
Feel that's always encouraging when opposition fans say that type of thing about a player that is leaving them. His footballing background looks decent and he played a good amount of games last season in L1. You never know, he might respond really well to KM's coaching and system and be one of those signings that really surprises.

In fairness he was one of our worst players in a season we finished basically level for our worst ever league position so it's hardly outlandish

Greg Leigh? on 12:32 - Jun 20 with 1886 views | TomTheWriter | Not sure why the negativity. Far exceeded both Penney and Thompson last season in threat level, all while playing for a side that sit very deep. Our left wing-backs were given the freedom of Ipswich at some points in every game with all opposition players naturally dragged towards our right side, yet did nothing with it Here is a player with attacking threat, v.strong defensively, and at a height that will make us stronger in both boxes if needed. Morecambe boss last season admitted they were lucky to get him because of his injury history.

Last year we signed (early in the window) a RWB that had previously played for a team that finished 15th, scored 5 league goals in 33 appearances in league one - and was largely expected to be a back-up to the subsequent "too good for this level" recruits. Greg Leigh played LB in a team that finished 19th and scored 2 in 36, and he is already a full international... Not saying that history will definitely repeat itself, but I would give him a chance!

Greg Leigh? on 10:37 - Jun 20 by davblue | i know nothing of him. Interesting signing. I know it's early days but does make me wonder whether the money has been slightly scaled back already. (I don't think it will be massively) Time will tell of course, maybe Penney is about to leave and this is cover for him, so no news here. |
Ball and Lapado will be two of the best paid players in this division.

Greg Leigh? on 13:05 - Jun 20 with 1701 views | SaleAway | I know Greg reasonably well, he grew up on our street. He's a cracking lad. athletic, loves to bomb forward. Can finish. He was always going to leave Morecambe this year. He was previously really well regarded at Aberdeen, and only ended up at Morecambe as he had a serious hamstring injury, so provided he had a good year, and stayed injury free, as always going to be looking upwards from them. I mentioned a few weeks back that I thought he would be a really good fit for us. Give the boy a chance, he's been pretty loved everywhere he's been ( when he was on loan at Aberdeen from Breda, before signing permanently, some of the Breda fans took a trip to Aberdeen purely to watch and support him).

Sounds great, although the hamstring injury would remain a concern. I can't say I am that convinced he will offer an improvement on what we have, but I will be delighted if I am proven wrong.

The wages Ladapo and Ball will be on would be three times as high as a large number of others in this league.

You have to remember we are owned by a pension fund, so we are not going to spend recklessly. We didn't spend a lot on buying players last year, and it suppose it remains to be seen if the overall wage bill is much higher than in previous seasons when we had players on Championship wages. Perhaps the thought is that the potential of the club is a selling point, but we are unlikely to attract decent, settled Championship players to a Division 1 club which failed to win promotion last year, unless there is a link to the manager such as Chaplin and Cook, and Ball and McKenna. The thing is I put my faith in McKenna in being able to spot a good'un who suits his style, as opposed to last season when there was no real philosophy behind the purchases. Genuine question, what makes you so sure that McKenna can spot a good’un? His had 1 window so far and he’s got Thompson and Bakinson who have fairly average. This isn’t me being critical, it’s very much something that’s yet to be proven so far.

There's a lot unproven about McKenna and the entourage brought in behind the scenes. My concern has always been that he has spent his career coaching at much higher level clubs and has little knowledge or experience of what's needed to be a success in the third tier. Doesn't appear to have any in his support staff either. Nevertheless I am cautiously optimistic that this time next year we'll be Championship. Blind faith I think it's called. t
