Harness’s goal looked fine to me 18:50 - Aug 27 with 2598 views | thebooks | from the NS lower: he just looked stronger than the defender. The way he celebrated it indicated he didn’t have any doubt it was perfectly legal as well. Still, I do wish we wouldn’t bemoan the referee whenever anything bad happens. Evans clearly handballed for the free kick that led to the first Barnsley goal, yet the “shît referee” chants started. Apart from that it was a really good match. Barnsley outthought us in the first half by getting three narrow forwards to press and by hitting long balls into the corners. We really pushed in the second half. Their keeper made 2 brilliant saves. 2-2 was frustrating, but if we keep attacking like that, and showing patience against the decent teams (which Barnsley were, I thought), we’ll be fine. I’d start KVY and Harness every time, but we have so many quality options. Oh yeah, one more annoyance: the dude behind me kept slagging Ladapo off and then gave James drinkdriving Norwood a standing ovation when he came on.

Harness’s goal looked fine to me on 18:53 - Aug 27 by JDB23 | I’d have to look back at the Evans one but to me it looked like his arms were down by his side, he got a shove in the back and the ball hit the top of his arm/shoulder. Would never get a pen for that so shouldn’t be a free kick either. Still, once it’s given we have to defend far far better than that. We’ve not looked great at dealing with balls into the box for a while now, expect Keogh will be getting a start soon. |
According to Wikipedia, at 6ft 2in, Keogh is shorter than both Woolfy and George, so I am not sure if he would be any better at dealing with balls in the box. I don't really see this as an issue, but if it is for a game where the opposition is much bigger than us, Burgess is probably your man. As regards the first goal today, I don't think it was the fault of the central defenders. I am not sure about the second goal.

Keogh is an organiser and a leader. It sometimes isn't about being taller than the man you are marking as much as being wiser and better. That said, I wouldn't want to see Chaplin up against a tall player. What height was John Wark for example?
