So, when will we nationalise wholesale energy acquisition? 01:47 - Aug 29 with 3683 viewsXYZ

It's the only solution - we don't generate enough so buy it all in and sell at affordable prices.

Life sentences for abuse of the system/ contracts for mates.

Free school breakfast and lunch for all kids.

40% tax > 45%

45% tax > 55%

CGT = Income Tax

Council Tax = % of value of house = Wealth Tax (which hits me!)

There's an elephant in the room.

Aren’t a lot of pensions tied into the shares of energy companies etc? Will that be an added cost to nationalisation?

Wouldn't the pension funds simply shift their portfolios? As would all other investors have to once they have been bought out.

The CBI estimated a £9bn hit to pensions and investments. But that was for nationalisation of rail and Royal Mail as well. Also worth noting that this is based on certain assumptions, and nobody knows exactly what valuation would actually be settled upon.

Does that also assume they lose out on dividends? If they moved the portfolio to other investments that pay the same dividends they would not miss out on them. Of course, a lot is determined by valuation. It smacks of an attempt to justify dividends coming from profits made from necessities. In an ideal world the pension funds would never have built portfolios including these companies in the first place.

Also, this £9bn hit should be balanced against the fact the UK pension funds in 2017 were 1 757 bn Euros. That is 1.76 trillion Euros. £9 bn is around 0.5%. Many other factors cost investments much higher percentages in an instant.

I hadn't seen that, thanks.

Just when we need truly radical and visionary leadership ... we get "no handouts" Liz Truss.

I do wonder if this winter things will get so bad we'll see some kind of emergency GNU - govt. of national unity. I simply cannot see Truss, Sunak or any of the other tories, either as individuals or collectively, being able to cope with what looks like an absolute tsunami incoming.
