Engagement Rings 10:48 - Sep 4 with 5769 viewsLeistonBlue

So I’m thinking of popping the question to (hopefully) future Mrs LB. I’m struggling to work out where to even start in terms of a ring. Am I best to just visit my local jewellers or to find something I like online and go from there? Also is the 3 months salary thing actually a thing or just a marketing gimmick? Feeling slightly overwhelmed by the seemingly endless array of options and price ranges. Help!!

Ignore the below - I didn’t read the full thread/or see the date!

Like anything, spend what you can afford and don’t overthink it.

Over the years I got a good understanding of what my wife wanted and using that knowledge went to Hatton garden, had a look in a few places and then chose one on gut instinct. If you’re lucky like me and a classic style is what’s she’s after then it’s reasonably straightforward. She might have commented on rings she’s seen on friends etc?

Proposal I kept very simple - on a quiet beach whilst on holiday after dinner.

Thanks for all the messages of congratulations. For those asking, proposal was on a deserted and frosty/snowy Aldeburgh beach first thing this morning - was absolutely stunning. In terms of the ring, I bought one at a reasonable price from a jeweller. A simple enough silver ring with a diamond on the top. She says she loves it!!

“proposal was on a deserted and frosty/snowy Aldeburgh beach first thing this morning”.

That’s worth more than the ring and you’ll both always remember it. I proposed on one of our local beaches and it’s still a special place for us, even though it’s just round the corner. The ring is neither here nor there - it’s value is in what it means, nothing else.

Now you need to start a thread on wedding rings! (Hint - if there’s one in her family that’s being passed down, go with that. My Mrs has her gran’s simple gold band; again it’s all about the sentiment).

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Living there does the ring have specific properties that makes it glow LOTR style if there's a radiation leak at Sizewell by any chance?

Congratulations to you both!

Glad to hear it went well.

Keanu Reeves made one out of a chocolate wrapper in ‘A Walk in The clouds’. The ladies loved that romantic gesture. Just saying.
