It was always going to be a tight, nervy one and losing unexpectedly to Lincoln made it even more so. Just had to get through it, find a way to win and put ourselves back on track — we did that, while not being at our best, and never looked in any particular danger. Reminded me slightly of when Norwich did a job on us at PR in March 2000 and then we had to play a good Fulham side here a few days later — lots of nerves, fairly grim game, Reuser won it at the end. Stakes not quite as high yet but you see what I mean.

A few things slightly off in attack at the moment — Harness found better spaces last night but is still quite loose in possession, which is OK if he's compensating for it in other ways but not so good when he isn't. Wonder if Edwards gets another go on Tues — at least you know he'll pull something from nothing even if other elements lack. What a luxury that we can put him and Chaplin in there completely fresh on Tues if we want. Port Vale feels like another one to "get through" without Morsy and probably Evans, although putting Ball in there should ensure we remain at least as solid.

I still suspect another striker will be on the list in January to help add another 10% — or more — when we need it.

Overall it's looking very good and the response to defeats has now been spot-on twice when tough opponents in Pompey & Derby could have compounded things. There'll be more setbacks and it's good to know we are shaking off any mental blocks quickly. 33 points from 15 games is an almost unbelievable tally, fair play to everyone involved.

A very important win, good to get another victory over a big rival when we needed it. Averaging over 2 points a game is highly encouraging. Yes others below us have games in hand but give me points on the board every time. It’s weird to think we’re a third of the way through this season when it feels like we only just started. If the second and final third are as good as the first we should be in very good shape.

With the club getting so much right, crowds at a near 26k average and so much good stuff happening , I can’t even begin to think what will happen if we don’t go up. It’s unthinkable and would burst so many bubbles. So to your point, we should absolutely invest in January.

It was a battle last night no doubt, as KMc said during the week.

Another game we wouldn’t have won in previous times, but we by and large finding ways to win different types of games.

You would think we should have to beat Vale, then Charlton (who are unbeaten at home) will be different again.
