Rishi it is on 13:04 - Oct 25 with 857 views | DJR | Rishi pledges a better NHS at a time when there are 7 million on waiting lists, 130,000 vacancies in the NHS and 170,000 vacancies in social care. How the hell is he going to achieve that when NHS budgets are likely to come under even greater pressure given the state of the finances? 12 years of austerity, coupled with Brexit, have really done for the NHS, and I can't really see any hope.

One of the biggest issues, as I understand it, is that they struggle to get people out of hospital once they are better. All of that social care in the community was shifted onto councils which have had their budgets cut massively and they're not allowed to raise their tax without people absolutely flipping out. So even if you pumped the NHS full of money right now, it won't even help. And that's without getting into the staffing issues.

Absolutely, and that's why I mentioned the 170,000 social care vacancies. Social care has been completely ignored since the Tories castigated Gordon Brown's "death tax" which was designed to address the problem.

But he will have the ERG breathing down his neck, and apparently agreed to some fairly distasteful things to get Sue Ellen (I'm bonkers) Braverman to give him her support. |

It's turned out to be worse than I thought. Sue Ellen (I have a dream) Braverman, the Attorney General who didn't believe in the rule of law, is back as Home Secretary. What with the so-called Raab Bill of Rights presumably being revived and Sunak committing to the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill, the attack on human rights and the rule of law since Brexit will continue unabated. Beneath the cheesy smile, Sunak really is about as socially illiberal as you can get. Given he is also a Thatcherite, there's little hope for us all [Post edited 25 Oct 2022 18:05]

Rishi it is on 14:39 - Oct 24 by Guthrum | Sunak is hardly 'Mr Brexit', he was not one of its architects, nor was he prominent in pushing it through. Can see him being far more pragmatic than Johnson in pushing deals with the EU through. |
Sunak is hardly 'Mr Brexit' sorry what pardon?

“having done eight ministerial roles, in five departments, under four Prime Ministers.” So over a couple of weeks then?

Just like it did today with its Prime Minister of the month front page, the Star needs to do the same for ministerial roles.

Lol PM of the month. I hadn’t seen that. The Star’s rapidly becoming a more serious paper than The Telegraph. More in tune and appropriate anyway.

Rishi it is on 23:58 - Oct 24 by Ryorry | The irony of him talking in his acceptance speech about how much he loves this country, whilst simultaneously planning to sell it off bit by bit by developing 'freeports' -> charter cities ... I see him as quite a dangerous, because astute, opponent for Labour - had enough nous to hone in on the words 'integrity' & 'competence' straightaway, understands the country's absolutely desperation now for those basics which have been lacking for years. |
OK, am retracting that "astute" comment on his day 1 ... actions speak louder than words, so his immediately re-installating Braverman - Opponent scores own goal in the first minute, dear oh dear.
