Note that there are question marks at the end of most of the sentences in that tweet, so I would not take these reports as fact checked quite yet. I did have a squint at your favourite news outlet to see if they were leading with this story, they have gone with the Ukraine war issues at the G20. The front page did have this article about an Iranian former footballer who is setting an example that England's Gary Neville should take note of:

Reading the BBC report (being the one I am more likely to trust) it is one person sentenced to death and twenty who could be sentenced if found guilty, some way short of fifteen thousand at present (but still at least one too many.) The death sentence already passed was for setting fire to government buildings, is this a good time to mention that arson in the Royal dockyards remained a capital offence until 1971 even though the death penalty was abolished for everything else in 1969 ? | |
