For extra context, it seems that Cardiff are unable to re-register their own players unless they pay Nantes £5m in respect of the Emiliano Sala transfer.

I understand such an embargo preventing them from signing players, but it seems a bit odd for it to prevent them from bringing their own players back from loans.

No, paints Cardiff in a terrible light. I worked there all the time when they were in the Prem and it was the Vincent Tan show back then, literally from game to game.

He's withdrawn a bit now, but I find it unbelievable that a club was able to sign a player and then he was allowed to travel twice with seemingly neither club insuring him.
