People tried this one in 2001-02 as if getting players sent off wins more matches than retaining all eleven on the pitch. It was bollox then and it's bollox now.

The litany of pointless red cards we amassed stumbling around under Keane, Jewell and Lambert very much prove my point. Getting players sent off didn't make us better.

Hurst deserves a dishonourable mention for two reds in such a short spell. Always felt that hurt us throughout the season as Nsiala and others (but mainly Nsiala) looked terrified any time someone ran at them thereafter.
