Brazil, Mariner, Gates???? Would love to have seen Kuqi up front with Mariner, in Mariner's era Imagine the carnage? Elbows and broken noses all over the shop.. Centre halves face down in the mud.. Ahh, the beautiful game...

Mariner did play some games in a partnership with Trevor Whymark, which must have been a testing combination for any Central Defender they came up against.

If we were going for a post-Premiership "never give the defenders a moments piece front three" I would probably go:

Stephen Hunt wide left

Shefki Kuqi down the middle

Jon Walters wide right

Most people would probably put Daryl Murphy in instead of Stephen Hunt, but I just loved watching Hunt's complete refusal to give anything up- he is my favourite player of the MickMac era.

I would really like to see Freddie in the Walters wide Right Forward role when we are against a small Left Back, with Hirst in the middle. Davis would then have two targets to attack with crosses, Hirst in the middle and Ladappo coming in at the back post.
