Agreed....the price of rail travel needs sorting over here too though.
Happen we ought to nationalise it and heavily subsidise it? Not because of profit and loss and dividend and pension motives peoples, but because it's the only sane thing to do.

I’d also make an exception to the internal flights rule if journeys from islands like the Northern Isles are involved, unless things have improved since the 1990s when in my experience ferries never connected with train times, and an overland journey from Orkney to Yorkshire would have taken 36-48 hours.
The Dutch government taking a tiny step in response to the concerns of its people: They pointed to the ministry's decision to reduce the number of flights, which highlights that residents are concerned about noise pollution and "the impact of the airport on their health, the natural environment and the climate more generally."
Then you have dangerous fantasy crap like: "The aviation industry is pursuing a net-zero CO2 emissions goal. This will be achieved primarily through sustainable aviation fuels and new technology. Displacing flights from one airport to another is not going to tackle aviation emissions," an IATA spokesperson told BBC News.

I work in Aviation and aware of technology that could make a significant difference to carbon emissions, so in a few years the situation may be very different.
However, if human beings stopped flying on any old whim it would make an immediate difference as cheap flights belie the long term cost to the planet. Although if we stay at home streaming this and that, trading bitcoins and posting twaddle on TWTD the offset is reduced. Maybe I should lie down and shut up.

Are you speaking mainly of biofuel options, and if so land-based or algal? Or synthesis from CO2, and if so what power source? Or summit else?
Not loaded questions - I don't know the answers and am interested.
