As the song rang out It occurred to me in the recesses of my memory that, regarding 1962, there was something not only about us, but them. I looked it up and, sure enough, 7 weeks before we were crowned champions of England, the previous iteration of Accrington Stanley folded and were unable to fulfill their season, all results involving them being scrubbed. Wiki mentions something about getting into debt via the building of a stand which seemed a tad familiar. It got worse as three years later they were eventually chucked out of some Northern Combination league.
60+ years on, here we are, and they, in spite of last night's result, have in recent times often been a match for us. We certainly do need to get out of this league. [Post edited 8 Mar 2023 21:03]
