So this Govt. can afford £479million for a detention centre in France 22:27 - Mar 10 with 3985 viewsRyorry

By my reckoning, they could have given 47,900 refugees £10K each to help them settle in the UK for that.

Im not in favour but logically one incentivises and the other penalises so I'm assuming the argument is the numbers reduce rather than increase when people are sent to foreign prisons.

That may well be the case, although given the current penalties are allegedly supposed to include deportation to central Africa I am not sure disincentivising the migrants is proven to be a successful strategy.

😂

I get Buhrer's point though (I think) - some might shrug their shoulders, decide they can't face any more unpleasant, hard barriers, so give up trying for the UK & fall back on staying in France.

Does that some people include you?

Your posting history on the subject would seem to point that way.

Isn't this an international problem? So why why haven't the international community dealt with it? From memory that's what happened to the Vietnamese boat people in the late 70's. They were given Visa's for entry to safe countries, but only if they heading to a refugee camp, & the legal stuff was done from there. Just because we're not in the EU doesn't dissolve us of some responsibility to help internationally. We should do much more for the Afghan people.
