A brand new Rommy Report - Derby (a) 18:55 - Apr 1 with 1199 views | The_Romford_Blue | Well don’t you just love to see it? Firstly, let me just say that of all the years following us round the country and wondering why I do it as I write these reports on the trains home each time (albeit I haven’t done one of these in something like 2 years now), today makes it all worthwhile. Those 10 minutes after the game where McKenna, the players, the coaches and the fans all celebrated together might just be one of my favourite moments as a town supporter ever. Admittedly it hasn’t been a high bar for those of us mid-twenties but it really did feel like a special moment. Before we get to the match, long-term readers will be desperate for the most important review.. the hot dog. Solid 8/10. The roll was abit firmer than I’d have expected but it went quite well with the sausage which was soft on the inside as you’d hope for a decent pre-game snack. I did debate whether to go for the chips as well but I’m 1.01 in running to be getting an Indian when I get back to Essex so I thought I’d better save some room seeing as the chips in hand of those walking towards me looked stacked. Onto the game.. I thought we were superb in that first twenty minutes. Hungry, quick, aggressive, attacking. It was everything you want to see in an Ipswich side and epitomised everything good about us under McKenna. That first goal was swift. It was sexy. It was deserved. I thought we started to slow down as the second half went on. Derby didn’t really create anything other than that cross that McGoldrick (he no longer gets the nickname Didz imo) headed into the side netting. Half of the ground thought it was in. Those of us in blue enjoyed reminding them it very much hadn’t. Just a word for our ex-striker, he still has his moments of magic. At one point he brought the ball down on his shoulder, plucked out the sky like a hawk nabbing its dinner. I’m not so sure his legs still quite have it though for the full 90. He was probably their best player all that said. Although I didn’t really think much of them. I’d say that was just as much us making them look slow because of our pace in comparison than them just being dreary and not quite at it. As for ourselves, when we’re good and the team is full of confidence, some of the moves and passages of play that we create are somewhat frightening for a side in the third division. It’s quite magical to watch us knowing we’ve become the side we used to envy where teams just can’t live with our passing. It’s a sight to behold when we are bang on it. What has been the difference between us when we were drawing games to where we are now? For me it’s confidence. We look assured at the back and the rest of the team doesn’t look nervy when anyone has it at their feet, whether that be even Walton or the defence. Everyone knows how we play by now and the midfielders know where to be to create the options so we can exploit the gaps. Did any of our defenders today misplace a single pass? I honestly think not. Just a word for Massimo Luongo. He’s some boy ain’t he? The way he compliments Morsy and how they work as a midfield partnership is just fantastic. For me if we do go up, they deserve to be our starting midfield partnership in the league above. It’s arguably as good a midfield pairing that we’ve had since the glory days of Tommy Miller and Jim Magilton. Let’s also just take a minute to appreciate that we’ve got Conor Chaplin and Nathan Broadhead playing in League 1. It’s outrageous that we’ve got them in their primes. They’re at the peak of their powers and at times the ball stuck to their boots like it was on a string. Just majestic to watch them in full flight. The big question is what next? Everyone seemed fully aware after the game just how absolutely huge the result was. The performance was very good but the result was massive and exactly what was required. So now onto the next. We’ve 8 more cup finals. It’s in our hands. We’ve the toughest fixtures on paper but right now playing like this we’re the best team in the league and if we perform to our level, we can win every game to come. It’s an incredibly exiting time to be a Town fan both for these last few weeks of the campaign and for years to come. Ashton and McKenna really are making sure it is indeed ‘our time’. It definitely is starting to feel like it anyway. I hope we’re going to go up. I think we might just go up. And more importantly I think we all now truly do BELIEVE that we will go up. Sheffield Wednesday was good until we lost our way but even when they had the better of it today we were in complete control. I really really enjoyed the day.

In his first spell he showed glimpses but for me his consistency is quite incredible for a third division player. You could genuinely argue he should have been MOTM in every one of our last 8 matches.
