Relegation, Promotion and Notts County 15:06 - Apr 23 with 3068 viewsSlippinJimmyJuan

Three go down from the Premier League, three come up from the Championship.Three go down from the Championship, three come up from League 1.

FOUR go down from League 1, FOUR come up from League 2. TWO go down from League 2, TWO come up from the National League.

Can anyone explain why they didn't just stick with the three up, three down system all the way? Is it something to do with the regional split below the National League?

Wishing Notts County all the best in the play offs, would be good to have two proper clubs back in the pyramid.

Cambridge United were accused, by BPA, of buying their way into the Football .

They spent £5,000 on a glossy brochure extolling the virtues of Cambridge United sending copies to all league clubs and others of influence.

If the rules on ground suitability had been in place and applied by the EFL, Cambridge might not have got elected to the League.

When I lived in Macclesfield, they won the league, but were told that their ground failed the EFL rules so were denied promotion.
So, they tarted it up to the required standard, but this time they fell foul of Murphys law, as they didn't finish in the promotion places the next season.
They got promoted the season after.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

League 1 and 2 players don't tend to get picked for Internationals, top Leagues have to make space in their schedule for International weeks.

Plus the ever-expanding UEFA franchise (Europa Conference?!?!?) piling on fixtures.

And Prem players not getting a proper Summer break because of Euros or World Cups.

I'm sure that is certainly a factor historically, but it would be interesting to see the data on how much that has changed of late. Even in our Lambert L1 side, we had a fair few internationals and I imagine that is the case for many of the top half at least.

I make you right about the excess European games, particularly when they revamp the Champions League soon.

I also couldn't believe my ears when they said the FA Cup final is due to be played on 3rd June.

It was the World Cup interrupting the season that has pushed the finish dates back.
We finish our season on May 7th.
Premier League finish on May 28th.
Most teams have played just 32 of 38 games.

I've actually found the PL a bit exhausting this season because it feels like there's never any break. I ended up enjoying the WC but I hope we never have this again as it just makes the season feel incredibly long. Players should have much more of a break.
