“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.” Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.

Love the Purple Hearts but they have always escaped me.

I thought I had broken the spell about 15 years ago when a load of us went to watch them somewhere in London but Bossbeard completely screwed the timing up and we missed them.

I will take partial blame here, however, if you go to a 9 Below Zero & Purple Hearts gig AND the group decision was to bin off seeing 9 Below Zero due to a below par performance attended previously, of the two bands in question, who would get top billing?

Without checking, we all assumed it would be PH and only clocked on to the fact that 9BZ were top billing when I enquired how long left they had before PH came on stage.

Still, Norwich lost in London that day and we had some fun & games with some of that lot at Liverpool St station which subsequently saw a none too impressed transport cop having to escort us back to Ipswich when he was about to end his shift. He gave me a crafty elbow to the side of the head as he went through the carriage and I didn't think his apology was from the heart.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

I only saw the Style Council once at the Gaumont in Ipswich in early 1984, but I was there to see the support act, Billy Bragg, shortly after the release of his first album, and before he had become relatively well-known.

Watched this on YouTube the other day - Style Council's early live appearance at Chippenham Golddiggers in March '84, which was broadcast on BBC TV.

Frequent chanting of 'We are the mods' by the crowd is amusing and looks like Talbot is a bit frustrated by it at various points.

I saw them only once, what turned out to be their last UK gig in July '89 at the Royal Albert Hall.

I've seen FTJ several times since they first started touring. Always great gigs, but yes, the comments about overweight over 50s in Fred Perry is true. I'm proudly one of them!
I've never found Russ to be a Weller wannabe. He always seems very comfortable in his own skin and doesn't try to be a Weller tribute act.
Him and Foxton have also released new music over the years.
