Barnsley not happy… on 13:32 - May 26 by PhilTWTD | I remember there was controversy when we played them as they hadn't sold their tickets and there was a continuing demand at our end. |
Didn’t seem to be many spaces in their end though …. Did they return some of their allocation, can you remember Phil? ( I realise you were just a young slip of a thing then though !!)

Ha! I remember talking to someone in their local media a day or so before the match about them not having taken all their allocation and our fans still wanting seats. Attendance was 73,427. A couple of years earlier for Charlton-Sunderland it was 77,739, so evidently scope for 4,000 more fans.

Barnsley not happy… on 09:14 - May 26 by SuperKieranMcKenna | There’s solid support for Town in Essex, historically they’ve not had a decent team. Southend had a spell in the second tier and still get fairly good attendances for the Conference but they don’t attract much support from beyond the Southend area. There’s a lot of Essex based tractorboys because as you say historically Ipswich were the nearest successful team. West Ham for me always had more of a London than an east Anglia identity. A lot of the West Ham fans in Essex are London exiles. They have played a blinder on the stadium though - moving it closer to the Essex catchment and the season tickets are so cheap that I know a few people that aren’t previously supporters but got tickets to take the kids for a cheap(ish) day out! |
"There’s solid support for Town in Essex, historically they’ve not had a decent team." West Ham was in Essex until 1965. They won the FA Cup in 1964, and the Cup Winner's cup in 1965. Leyton was also in Essex until 1965, and Orient were in Division 1 in 1962-63.
