Are there any videos out there of him playing for Town? I know everyone says he was absolutely class but I don't remember him - too young and it was before I really took a keen interest :(
I remember Gio as fondly as anyone, but I wonder if we do look back on him with rose-tinted specs.
Recently, I happened to be reading a report of our 3-1 home defeat by Doncaster in April 2009 on a website called (* checks notes *) "TWTD" and was struck by the reporter's comment that "Dos Santos was again anonymous".
This was the 4th game of an 8-game loan spell, so halfway through his time here, and with only a few dead rubbers left to play in, it appears he was yet to impress Mr Ham, whose judgement, I'm sure we all agree, cannot be questioned.

The report says it was his first match after returning from injury. It says he hit the post and ended up playing as a second striker for the last 10 minutes of the first half and then moved to the right wing for the second half.
The full quote for him being anonymous is: "Dos Santos was again anonymous, Walters looked short on fitness, Gareth McAuley was missed at the back with both Campo and Balkestein having less than impressive afternoons, Shumulikoski again lacked any presence at the heart of the midfield, while Garvan and too many others appear woefully short of confidence."
I think it likely that Gio didn't get enough of the ball to do anything in that match. My memories are of him being far too good for the level we were playing at. If he had played for us for a whole season, I am sure we would have done a lot better and the chants of "We want Magilton out" and "You don't know what you're doing" may not have been so loud. Who was to know what we were heading for once he went, though?
Town 1-3 Doncaster Rovers11th Apr 2009 18:47 Town's woeful home form continued as Doncaster Rovers left Portman Road with a 3-1 win. Gareth Roberts's fluke put the visitors in front, before Owen Garvan hit back, but goals from Paul Heffernan and James Hayter won the game, while Connor Wickham became Town's youngest ever player.0
His next match saw him help us to a 3-2 win over the budgies, albeit Magic's last match.
