What is this coming season about for ITFC? 08:27 - Aug 3 with 1165 viewsNthQldITFC

Having just read Stuart Watson's column in the EADT, it struck me that when he says...

'Ultimately, all of the above has led to me to cautiously predicting an eighth-place finish for Town. The fact that might be seen by some as pessimistic tells you everything about the feelgood factor surrounding the club right now.'

...I didn't have any sort of reaction either way. Last season had a real 'promotion or bust' feeling for me when considering the new ownership and management and the expectations and potential pressures which would have built had we not made it.

This year, so long as we're not struggling in a relegation fight, is all about continuing to build with the same principles for me. I think we could finish top six, but if we finished in the traditional 15th I wouldn't be too bothered, so long as the same footballing principles are running through the club and players and the squad are developing well.

I'm sure the club itself will be pushing for play offs, but I'm sure that they know how to drive high and consistent performances in a calm way, and the lack of league position pressure will be helpful or neutral rather than hinder performances and results.

(Waffle, waffle )

Sorry, I've just seen Dubtractor's thread which is very much along these lines, so please pardon and ignore this tautology. (or turn it into a punfest)

With all the talk from the Ashton and Co I would like to think top half and a couple of top players still to sign.

I'm just really looking forward to kick-off, with no negativity or trepidation or stress. No idea how it will pan out tbh. No doubt the stress will begin pretty quickly, especially if we don't get results early doors and PR gets all moany or squeaky bum. I go to the footy for a laugh and don't have particular expectations except the club being able to put out a team that can generally compete and players who can, well, play footy that's fun to watch.

I genuinely feel we are looking for top 6.

We are just 2 maybe 3 quality additions to an already very good, settled squad. We matched Burnley ( last seasons best by a country mile). Many other CC clubs are as Watson states in a state of unrest / regrouping / new managers etc, why should we fear anyone. Yes you have a couple of clubs with serious clout but that leaves 3 if not 4 places up gif grand in thst too 6.

These players are just humans. We have a very competent, highly analytical and tactical astute manager who has plied his trade at the very highest level as a number two. He reflects ALL the time and unlike so many of our previous managers, learns from mistakes.

I’d say we have as good a chance as any of the so called big hitters in this division.

I’m cautiously optimistic so kind of agree well do well. We shouldn’t underestimate the value of being a well oiled team. That’s going to carry us a long way and set us up better than poorer teams with better players. All the teams who did well last season were first and foremost solid and difficult to play through, and then they could hurt teams. I think we tick all those boxes. Not that a little bit of extra quality won’t help of course.

We need to be lucky with injuries too.

The difference between 6thand 13th will probably be 4 points or thereabouts - with about ten clubs ‘in touch with the play offs’until two games before the end of the season. Given the absurdity of the play offs and the relatively level playing field created by clubs making themselves skint via a short stint in the Prem anything is possible.

But I’ll predict howls of righteous indignation and calls for more signings and the managers head if the team is lower mid-table, or worse come October

Yeah, but you missed out the word 'franchise'.
