So.
Positives.. we won.
We showed some fantastic attacking intent and showed our final third play is still one to take seriously.
At the back it was solid enough considering it was effective missing 2 of its better players in Clarke and Walton. The game was perfect for the management team to be able to dig into what needs sorting as we go forwards and doesn't give us that dangerous sense of entitlement had we controlled the game like a league 1 game. This for me was the perfect game to have.
Negatives.
Harness isn't the man you want to bring on when trying to see a game out. He's been with us over a season and he's showing no changes in his ability to actually hold the ball.. we will need better imo.
JD.. Clarke will of course be first choice and its definitely needed. Jd is a solid covering option. But he's extremely limited going forwards and his passing caused us many problems. Not a major thing to solve with Clarke returning next week so that's good.
Ladapo.. looked like he wanted to give a pen away. KM needs to get this out of him.
Whilst there were slight concerns with other things.. tbh first game. 114 minutes some players barely fit yet still starting, you can't really be to harsh about things.
Overall as said perfect first game. Lots for KM to digest and I think it showed certain areas which will need reinforcing.. |  |

We were a bit shell shocked in that first 20. Hladky especially with some wayward and not nice to control passes. Made up for it tin the final minutes though.
Agree with regards to Harness. Great work rate, but not the guy you want to control a game.
I thought Burgess was exceptional as he has been since he came back from injury.
Sunderland played some very good stuff and will be frustrated that they didn’t get at least a draw today.
What we have learned is that we definitely need perhaps an extra three upgrades from what we have on the brunch. |  | | |

The tricky business, is buying upgrades that are happy to sit on the bench. And then having 3 squad players on the wage bill That won't get into the 25 man squad...
Think we'll just need to accept, that our back up players will probably not be at the level of some of our first eleven. As with most squads....
Think we could do with 1 in for some striker depth. And a versatile CB. |  | | |
