Loan players of any age take a squad place up. Whilst I have no doubt it would be brilliant for Scarlett's development, is he currently better than Freddie? Fred was under par on Tuesday but we saw last season he can be a slow starter and come good. I'd be all over Scarlett if he didn't take a squad place, but if we want to be challenging top 6 then a youngster who got 4 goals in L1 last year doesn't look like our best use of a squad place.
edit: think maybe Pompey played him more as a winger, so that could explain his modest goal tally. [Post edited 11 Aug 2023 7:12]
