Maurice Steijn 12:26 - Aug 14 with 1525 views | TractorCam | I notice he's now manager of Ajax. Whilst I don't think he was ever a serious link in 2018, got me thinking about those who were and how most have had way better careers than Hurst in that time. Gerrard, Lampard and Parker have all managed in both the Prem and Champions League. Jack Ross not so good. Shows how bad the ownership was or how bad Evans was at decision making.

Definitely “Roy Keane’s Ipswich” vibes with those particular managerial appointments.

I agree, but both have gone on to have better careers than Hurst and are probably grateful they didn't end up here. Even if Gerrard struggled at Villa, you can't downplay his achievements with Rangers.

Think whoever came in (from the profile Evans was looking at) would have struggled to do much with what they would have had. Pretty sure Alan Lee said, indirectly, that Warnock wanted it but Evans had decided we needed a young coach so wouldn't even entertain the idea.

That's a depressing thought, so decision making definitely an issue. I think he wanted Lampard too but he mentioned the lack of money so ended up at Derby. Whilst he's a bit of a dud, he absolutely made the right call.

In defence of Ross, he day better at Sunderland than Lambert did at Ipswich and would have been a better choice than Hurst. Lampard was a case of Evans connections to his beloved Chelsea and Harry Redknapp, but Lampard knew he wouldn't get any funding so smartly stayed clear and wrecked Derby's finances instead!

Potter was managing in the latter stages of European competition at the time we were looking for a new manager, I think the cat was well and truly out of the bag regarding his abilities. Even if Evans had been interested I really don’t think he would have come to Ipswich at that time.
