Amazon - Large appliances 17:41 - Sep 15 with 2325 views | Zx1988 | We're looking at getting a heat pump tumble dryer, and there's a very good one on Amazon at the moment for a very good price, and about £300 cheaper than the usual retailers such as AO etc., Has anyone had any experience of ordering large appliances from Amazon, and their delivery of such items? Is it a simple kerbside delivery service, or will they bring it into the house?

My own fault for being a cheapskate to some extent, I looked at prices of known brand refrigerators from John Lewis etc. and thought 'I'm not paying that !' sp I bought this 'Cookology' fridge with a small freezer in it for. I think, a hundred and thirty quid. Sometimes the freezer worked and sometimes it didn't. Not just annoying but dangerous to health as well. Then I read in 'Which ?' about individuals in China, Tianzieng I think, who can buy components off the shelf and assemble them into domestic appliances with a Western sounding brand name and sell them through Amazon (with the obligatory made up five star reviews of course) and realised that I had been had. Bizarrely the freezer unit has been working fine for a few months now but I have a second hand freezer ready for any malfunctions. As far as delivery went that was fine, I was out when it came but the carrier left it in my porch so all I had to do was unpack it and heft it into place, not a problem for something as relatively light as a small fridge / freezer.

Amazon - Large appliances on 20:39 - Sep 15 with 2042 views | belgablue | Is the vendor Amazon or a 3rd party? I bought an oven and hob using German amazon a few years ago. Clicked on the vendor on Amazon and they were just a small local shop somewhere so I found them online and called and ordered direct. No issues.

It's my policy to always read the 1-star reviews first!

Ah yes, that would make sense. This one doesn't seem to fit that particular bill. It's an AEG being sold direct by Amazon, and a 'Which?' Best-Buy, so the item quality should be fine. It's just a case of the delivery side of things.

Amazon - Large appliances on 14:10 - Sep 16 with 1787 views | Clutch | I tried to get a drier from them, ordered, got the delivery date. Stayed off work, and it never arrived. Called them, they had no idea where it was. Ended up using AO, who are amazing at logistics.

Good policy but there were no one star reviews for this product, well not until I posted mine anyway... As far as the OP goes I would be prepared to pay a little extra to buy from John Lewis for a quality product like AEG because any after sales service is likely to be better than Amazon.

JL often give much longer guarantees on high-value items too, eg 2 years instead of one, so yes, very good policy to buy from them if the price is comparable - got both my iPhone and MacBook from them 👍 PS re AEG - don’t buy the auto-defrost fridge-freezer that I’ve got unless you enjoy the intermittent sounds of a pneumatic road drill and arctic glaciers cracking in your kitchen … [Post edited 17 Sep 2023 11:56]
